Aztec Lizard
Aztec Lizard

Sculpture woven on an 8'' wide inkle loom then assembled with wire armature and stuffing and semi-precious stone eyes. The limbs and flanks are crocheted. The supplementary-warp weave hails from Peru, circa 1500 BC, and is still practiced enthusiastically throughout the Andes along with many other inventive and ingenious warp-patterned weave structures... where each row of woven pattern is hand picked, giving great design freedom along with highly concentrated skilled labour.
These critters were inspired by the many beautiful reptiles I encountered while camping and backpacking in Indian country of Arizona and New Mexico.
